FLORAL DESIGNS

(Classes on 13.1.09)

The theme for this design was "An arrangement in a glass container", and for this, I've used a round glass vase, with a tall piece of floral foam in the centre for the mechanics. Inside the vase, I've added some green sisal at the base, and surrounded the foam with glass nuggets to add interest and hide the mechanics. Below are two versions of this design, both using similar flowers and foliage. On the left, for the height I've used orange gerberas. The foliage used is Leucothoe fontainesia, Podocarpus 'Young Rusty', Hedera colchica 'Sulphur Heart', and some conifer which has turned bronze coloured in winter. Two stems of Phormium tenax 'Alison Blackman' have been looped to add interest. The other flowers have been grouped and are orange roses, orange spray carnations and blue Echinacea. In the arrangement pictured on the right, for the height, I've used Phormium tenax purpurea. Other foliage used is Leucothoe fontainesia, Podocarpus 'Young Rusty', Fatshedera lizei 'Annamieke', and some conifer which has turned bronze coloured in winter. Two stems of Phormium cookianum 'Yellow Wave' have been looped and stapled to add interest. The flowers have been grouped and are orange roses, orange gerberas, green spray Chrysanthemums and blue Echinacea.
