DESIGN 108

A medley of spring flowers! I love to use spring flowers when they are in season, and I have chosen a lovely ceramic blue trough for this design. Although the trough hasn't got any drainage holes, it came with a rectangular saucer, so I have used this for a base. I have used floral foam for the mechanics, and have packed the trough half full with plastic bags to cut down on the amount of foam used, as the trough is quite deep. The design is made to look like a miniature spring flower border, with all the flowers grouped as if they were growing in clumps. The colour scheme is mainly blue, purple and yellow, with a touch of pink. The flowers used were purple Dutch Iris for the height, with purple Freesias, blue Hyacinths, yellow Daffodils, yellow double Tulips, and right at the front, pink Pieris japonica 'Valley Rose'. To pick up the pink of the Pieris, I have used Hebe 'Silver Dollar', whose foliage is grey-green with a white edge, and pink-flushed tips. Other foliage used is xFatshedera lizei variegata, and Hedera helix (unknown variety) cascading down at the front. To cover any gaps showing the floral foam, I have used some natural green moss.
