DESIGN 104

Here's a very simple but effective arrangement which would look good any time of the year, but looks especially good in winter, when there are lots of bare twigs around to use. I have made the arrangement in a brown ceramic bowl, with a thin piece of floral foam (only about 2" deep) down in the bottom of the container. The floral foam has been anchored to the container with a plastic pinholder, fixed with green floral fix, as it is not possible to anchor it to the container with tape. I then covered the foam with a thin layer of green sisal, but reindeer moss or something similar would do. Next, I added a few pink spray carnations, evenly spaced, and quite low onto the foam. I then used some knarled twigs of Sycamore (Acer pseudoplatanus), which had been blown down in recent gales. These were well weathered, and had moss and lichen growing on them, which I think added to the effect! The twigs were arranged loosely in a domed shape. Finally, I added some pink roses, arranged so that they nestled just inside the twigs, not too low, and not too high. See below for an overhead view of the design.
